Literature Text

As the petals weep in my garden
Withered by the exhausting rains
That splash onto the ground
Shattering the silence that once settled under the sun
I lay there.

Surrounded by the grey skies and filthy puddles
Smeared in the wet muck I lie on
Patiently waiting for the sun to shine down
And kiss my skin, begging me to be at peace
With the little fortune that the rain has brought me.

But how can I be thankful for such loss
As it drowns everything it touches and even the unholy bugs crawl
Beneath the surface
To Hide?
And who knows how long it will be before I hide with them?
Buried deep from the storm
Finally numb to its cold touch
Offering all that I have left to the Earth
Giving without asking for anything in return.

Should my ungrateful spirit be cleansed
Before I surrender to my rebirth,
Held within a womb that knows no sorrow
No happiness and no love?

We should think not.
We will forever consume the remains
And plead for sunny skies and fairytales.
And I am no different.

So I will continue to lay on my despair
Like all daughters and sons of the Earth
And pray beneath the tear drops of the sky
For the light of hope
To shine down on me.
